Investment that pays off

“A good restoration of a valuable clock, barometer or music box is an investment that pays off,” says Frank van Nuus, watchmaker and restorer, from ‘s-Hertogenbosch. He and his two employees have specialized in the repair and restoration of precision instruments and do so with love for the profession.

Van Nuus recently made headlines with the restoration of an antique standing clock. Thanks to him, it was worth eighty thousand euros, three times as much as before the restoration.

It is an extreme example because the clockmaker indicates that it also pays to hand over grandma’s clock in his shop/workshop. “we work with standard rates and are absolutely not expensive”.

It is clear that Van Nuus has a love for the clockmaker’s trade. “That discipline was invented for me at an early age. I was trained in fine metal, I also had fine fingers and that eventually resulted in the watchmaker / jeweler training. We make people happy. Quite a few of them leave the door with a smile “. Van Nuus would like to say something about the credit crisis. “We are busier than ever before. More and more people are recognizing that a good piece of antique, market crash or not, increases in value”.

When asked about his favorite clocks, he likes to go back several centuries. “Back then, high-quality forging, engraving and gilding was already taking place. Wonderful to see, fantastic to work on”.
